VSR Call 2025/2 - Application for computing time and extension of expiring projects
by Coordination Office 07 Jul '25

07 Jul '25
Dear Madam/Sir, The Jülich Supercomputing Centre (JSC) provides world-class supercomputers for researchers of all scientific fields who are faced with demanding and time-consuming simulations. Calls for computing time applications are published twice a year. The corresponding computing time periods have a duration of one year. These periods begin on 1 May and 1 November of each year. The VSR Commission is responsible for the comparative peer review process and the allocation of the resources. You are hereby invited to apply for computing time in the upcoming period 1 November 2025 – 31 October 2026 Applications can be submitted between 7 July 2025 and 11 August 2025, 17:00 CEST (strict deadline) Late applications will not be considered. Please note the date, no further reminders will be sent. Further information can be found at https://go.fzj.de/vsr-projects. To account for the fact that the effective computing power per core hour differs for different modules and resources, computing time requirements can be specified either in million core-hours (Mcore-h) or in 10^18 FLOP per year (EFLOP) based on the resources’ theoretical peak performance. For further details on this conversion, information about all available resources, and the application procedure please see the following fact sheet: https://application.fz-juelich.de/PublicFiles/FactSheets/FactSheet-VSR.pdf Researchers of the Forschungszentrum Jülich can also apply for resources within the framework of the GCS/NIC Call for Regular Projects and the GCS Large-Scale Call, both of which are synchronized with this VSR Call. Projects are classified as "Large-Scale" if they require at least 2% of the systems’ annual production in terms of estimated availability. For further information on GCS Large-Scale and GCS/NIC Regular Projects see https://www.gauss-centre.eu/for-users/hpc-access/ Applying for extensions of expiring projects is possible. In this case, please provide the project ID of the project you want to extend. In the project description, please focus on new aspects which will be covered in the upcoming computing time period. You do not need to provide a copy of the previous project description(s). Computing time applications must not overlap. For example, if your project has been granted computing time for the period 1 May 2025 – 30 April 2026 it is not possible to apply for additional computing time in this call. Please note, that computing and data resources, as well as access to the JSC HPC infrastructure, are provided to the best of our ability. However, approved resources are not guaranteed. We reserve the right to limit the availability of resources if external conditions such as force majeure, obligations to save electricity, or other circumstances make this necessary. Resources lost in such cases will not be refunded. If you have any questions regarding the application process, please do not hesitate to contact the Coordination Office for the Allocation of Computing Time Email: coordination-office(a)fz-juelich.de Phone: 02461 61-2200 With kind regards Florian Janetzko -- Dr. Florian Janetzko Office for the Allocation of Computing Time Juelich Supercomputing Centre (JSC) Forschungszentrum Juelich 52425 Juelich, Germany Phone: +49 2461 61 2200 Web : https://www.fz-juelich.de/de/ias/jsc --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH 52425 Jülich Sitz der Gesellschaft: Jülich Eingetragen im Handelsregister des Amtsgerichts Düren Nr.
