GCS Call 2025-2 for Large-Scale Projects on Hunter, JUWELS und SUPERMUC-NG (Call 34)

Please save the call closing date. Dear Madam/Sir, The Gauss Centre for Supercomputing (GCS) provides computing power and services of the highest performance class for computational sciences and engineering at its three member sites in Garching (Leibniz Supercomputing Centre, LRZ), Jülich (Jülich Supercomputing Centre, JSC), and Stuttgart (High Performance Computing Center Stuttgart, HLRS). Projects are classified as “Large-Scale”, if they request
= 25.000 Hunter-node-hours per year on Hunter or
= 45 million core-hours per year on SuperMUC-NG Phase 1 or
= 140,000 GPU-h on SuperMUC-NG Phase 2 or
= 45x10^21 FLOP per year on JUWELS
Please note that SuperMUC-NG Phase 1 is currently the last large CPU-only deployment within GCS and will be operated at most for two more years. The compute power of forthcoming machines will be largely provided by accelerators in the foreseeable future. Accordingly, code porting to GPUs will be required to use these machines. Please check out training offers and contact the local application support teams of the centres. The deployment of JUPITER is progressing steadily. However, a full production start is not yet determined. As is to be expected with a system of this complexity, some technical challenges still need to be addressed. Therefore, JUPITER is expected to be available as a GCS production system for computing time applications starting with the 2026/1 call. For these large-scale projects, a competitive review and resource allocation process is established by the GCS. A "Call for Large-Scale Projects" is published by GCS twice a year: https://jards.gauss-centre.eu/PublicFiles/GCS-LS-Call/GaussCall.pdf The current call 2025-2 will be open July 7th to August 11th 2025, 17:00 CEST (strict deadline). The current call covers the period from November 1, 2025, to October 31, 2026. Eligible for applications are members of German universities and publicly funded German research institutions, e.g., Max-Planck Society, and Helmholtz Association. Applications for large-scale projects must be submitted electronically via the GCS-JARDS form at https://jards.gauss-centre.eu/gcshome/application/ All important information with respect to the application procedure is presented here: HUNTER: https://jards.gauss-centre.eu/PublicFiles/FactSheets/FactSheet-GCS-HUNTER.pd... https://www.gauss-centre.eu/for-users/hpc-access/instructions-for-hunter JUWELS: https://jards.gauss-centre.eu/PublicFiles/FactSheets/FactSheet-GCS-NIC-JUWEL... https://www.gauss-centre.eu/for-users/hpc-access/instructions-for-juwels SUPERMUC-NG: https://jards.gauss-centre.eu/PublicFiles/FactSheets/FactSheet-GCS-SUPERMUC-... https://www.gauss-centre.eu/for-users/hpc-access/instructions-for-supermuc-n...
