GCS-Call 2026/1 - Extension of JUWELS Booster projects

Dear Principal Investigators, As previously announced, the JUWELS Booster is scheduled for decommissioning in June 2026. With this email we would like to remind you that, as an exception, you are permitted to apply for an extension of your project, which began in November 2025, already for the upcoming granting period 1 May 2026 to 30 April 2027. Applications can be submitted 12 January - 9 February 2026, 5pm CET (strict deadline) Emails containing information about the call details have just been sent to you. For further information, please see https://www.gauss-centre.eu/for-users/hpc-access If you choose to apply for such an extension and need JUWELS CPU resources, you must include these in your application. Already approved CPU resources from the previous call will be replaced by the new allocation in this case. If you do not apply for an extension, already approved CPU resources will be available until the end of the current granting period (31 October 2026). GCS Regular Projects: Call 2026/1 – Application for computing time and extension of expiring projects

Dear Madam/Sir The Gauss Centre for Supercomputing (GCS) provides computing power and services of the highest performance class for computational sciences and engineering. Resources are provided on the JUWELS Cluster Module (Jülich Wizard for European Leadership Science). Its 2511 nodes are equipped with dual-socket Intel-Skylake Platinum 8168 CPUs. It will probably be decomissioned and replaced by a successor cluster system during the upcoming granting period. Granted projects will automatically be migrated to the new system. Details about the successor system and the migration process will be announced in due time. The Booster of Europe’s first exascale supercomputer JUPITER (Joint Undertaking Pioneer for Innovative and Transformative Exascale Research) consists of about 6000 nodes, each equipped with four NVIDIA GH200 Superchips (72 cores each, 288 cores/node, 4 NVIDIA H100, 96 GB HBM3 each). Currently, work is in progress to bring JUPITER in production. Please note, that not the full amount of resources can be offered in this call. Further information is provided in the JUPITER Fact-Sheet (s. link below). Computing time periods have a duration of one year with the possibility of applying twice a year for resources. These periods begin on 1 May and on 1 November of each year, respectively. The current call for computing time allocations opens on 12 January 2026 and you are hereby invited to apply for the upcoming period 1 May 2026 – 30 April 2027 The committees of the John von Neumann-Institute (NIC) and the Gauss Centre for Supercomputing (GCS) are responsible for the comparative peer review process. The reviews of the applications are carried out by national and international experts in their respective scientific fields. Applications can be submitted between 12 January 2026 and 9 February 2026, 17:00 CET Eligible for applications are members of German universities and publicly funded German research institutions, e.g., Max-Planck Society, and Helmholtz Association. We reserve the right to limit the availability of resources if external conditions such as force majeure, obligations to save electricity, or other circumstances make this necessary. GCS Call 2026-1 for Large-Scale Projects on Hunter, JUWELS und SUPERMUC-NG (Call 35)

Dear Madam/Sir The Gauss Centre for Supercomputing (GCS) provides computing power and services of the highest performance class for computational sciences and engineering at its three member sites in Garching (Leibniz Supercomputing Centre, LRZ), Jülich (Jülich Supercomputing Centre, JSC), and Stuttgart (High Performance Computing Center Stuttgart, HLRS). Projects are classified as “Large-Scale”, if they request >= 25,000 Hunter-node-hours per year on Hunter or >= 45 million core-hours per year on SuperMUC-NG Phase 1 or >= 140,000 GPU-h per year on SuperMUC-NG Phase 2 or >= 5250x10^18 FLOP per year on JUWELS Cluster For these large-scale projects, a competitive review and resource allocation process is established by the GCS. A "Call for Large-Scale Projects" is published by GCS twice a year.
